How it works:
I learnt many years ago, that to get the right image, many images generally have to be taken. With so many variables in a single photo, the chances to get all those variables in the right place at the right time is not a simple process.
It's certainly not uncommon for me to snap off hundreds of photos in an hour, just to aim for one I'm looking to use at a commercial level, which of course isn't uncommon in the professional sector.
It's not that I don't know how to take a good photo of course, it's that people make so many subtle expression changes across their face many times a second, and groups even more so.
If you're looking for those 'really great photos' for your business, please do expect to set aside a good few hours.
Prices
Like all areas of the businesses Jason's involved, he believes in fair and honest pricing, for the work being undertaken.
For Event Photography
For general event photography, this is normally £200 (+VAT) per half day of shooting (ie 2-3 hours shoot time). This will normally give you a catalogue of a few hundred manually selected quality jpeg images, much like the collections on Flickr you can see from the links on this site.
Out of around 500 or so images in around 2-3 hours of a general event, typically, this will produce around 20-50+ special images that each stand on their own (ie reaching the higher standards you'll see in the portfolio of collections on this website directly). Of course photo numbers will vary, depending on the event, etc. These higher rated images by my consideration, will be clearly marked for your easier reference.
To get a better understanding of the types of images taken over the shoot, each collection is a selection of around 20-30% of images taken around the 2-3 hours shoot time. The other images are generally subtly different camera angles to the same shot.
All my selected jpeg images are provided on disk (or on the web for you to download at your leisure, whichever typically works out easier for you). I only provide you with images however that I'm happy to be associated with.
If you have particular requirements for the image size (ie your online gallery or website, restricts images to a set pixel size) do let me know.
Turnaround times are generally very short, with full digital copies normally coming back to you in just a few days if not sooner. If you have a rush job as many people do, this can generally be arranged at a small additional price to come back to you the day after, or that evening!
For studio use at the Purity Photography Studio
I'm lucky enough to have ample use of the Purity Studio, a 500+ sq ft clean white studio in Reading with wooden (effect) floors. When not in use as a photography studio, is a fitness / dance studio.
Rates are similar to event photography, depending upon your requirements, from just £95 (+VAT) per hour shooting time.
A fully qualified make up artist is also available for an additional fee.
On-site / Location based photography
Much of the equipment is also portable, making use of available natural light where possible. I don't carry portable backdrops, but do have portable indoor lighting where appropriate.
Again, rates can be discussed based on your requirements, but are typically available at a guide price of £200 +VAT for 2-3 hours shooting time. The number of images available will be signifcantly reduced however from those of 'Event Photography'. Although you will still have amazing images from your shoot, I guarantee it.
A couple of notes about Copyright
For the original client(s):
Of course, as with all images taken in the UK and most other parts of the world, the legal copyright of each image rests with the photographer. However, that doesn't mean you need to pay JasonParlour Photography every time you want to print out or use a copy on the web for your own website. When I give you a digital copy of the images from your shoot, you also get a perpetual release of copyright for your own use (including commercial use of the images on your own printed materials) if you commissioned the images originally. If you wish to use the images in the press or other associated media, a suitable additional arrangement can be made to ensure suitable remuneration.
Of course, to ensure fair remuneration, these images may not be resold by by the client without a separate written agreement. Similarly, use by other parties must be in accordance with the section below.
If you feature in the images, or would just like to use some of them:
If you didn't commission the images, but feature in them (ie if you're a guest at a function I've been taking photos at), then you're also welcome to use the images, by contacting me first to get permission to reproduce them, and also by displaying simple photo credits, such as 'photo by JasonParlour.com' alongside any images displayed (such as on facebook, myspace, etc.)
I do occasionally give releases for my images to appear in the media, on news articles, blogs, etc. So even if you don't feature directly in some of my images, but they represent what you're trying to say, this option may be available. (Please note, that typically, if the photos include people, then a model release form will need to be available to be used commercially, which may or may not be available).
If you are not the original person/company who commissioned the images, you may not however, under any circumstances (without a very clear separate written contract from JasonParlour to the contrary), resell any image without clear written consent, or publish it in any printed commercial media, or display it on any commercial website, etc, without very clear separate written permission allowing you to do so.
